Compass errors on the Typhoon H usually show up as calibration failures, toilet-bowling in flight, or the drone refusing to hold position.
Calibrate it right
- Go to a large open area, away from cars, buildings, and metal structures. Parking lots with rebar and reinforced concrete are bad spots.
- Remove metal objects from your pockets and take off any large metal watch.
- Follow the ST16 on-screen calibration dance exactly. If it fails twice in the same spot, move to a different location before assuming hardware failure.
When calibration keeps failing
A compass that will not calibrate in a clean location usually has a failing compass module or interference from damaged wiring. The compass module is part of the GPS/compass assembly on the Typhoon H. replacement GPS/compass modules. If a new module does not fix it, the flight controller is the next suspect, and that is bench work: mail-in diagnostic.
